IE8 no longer connect to Internet.  LAN adapter still works fine.  Can still remote connect to and from this computer.  Other computers on same router can connect to internet.  Need help
I rebuild a new hard drive with the computer restore CD (Windows XP with SP3). After installing the operating system I installed IE 8. Everything worked fine. I was able to connect to the internet at this point. I then ran Windows update and selected all updates. After installing the updates I can no longer connect to the internet. The LAN adapter still works fine. I can ping the router and other computers on the network. I can also run remote desktop from this computer and am able to connect and run other computers. I can also remote desktop to this computer from other computers. Just can not connect to the internet. I uninstalled IE 8 using ADD/REMOVE programs. This reverted me back to IE 6 . It does not connect to the internet. I installed Foxfire and it also does not connect to the internet. Any suggestions other that rebuilding the system and being more selective in the Microsoft windows updates that I allow to be installed?
